Success Stories: Animal welfare groups share tourism partnership ideas at Caribbean Animal Welfare Conference
Caribbean animal welfare groups met on April 23 to exchange ideas on partnerships with tourism during the Caribbean Animal Welfare Conference, held April 21-24 at the Hotel Melia in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Animal organizations from Antigua, Puerto Rico, Turks and Caicos, Grenada, Anguilla, Dominican Republic and many other islands throughout the region shared their successful partnerships with tourism.
Some of the success stories include the following: * The Antigua and Barbuda Humane Society has placed a sign at the cruise ship dock inviting tourists to visit its T-shirt shop at the local casino.
* The Vieques Humane Society in Puerto Rico holds an art auction at a local restaurant during tourism season to raise operating funds for the shelter. * PADELA, a Dominican Republic animal welfare group, receives support from the city council because the organization is located in Santo Domingo's Colonial Zone, a tourism destination. More details about these tourism partnerships will be shared in upcoming newsletters. Learn more about how tourism can support animal welfare: http://www.CaribbeanAnimalTourismSupport.org ![]() |
News: Caribbean animal welfare groups highlight tourism partnerships on Web sites
Several Caribbean animal welfare groups promote partnerships with tourism on their Web sites, benefitting both the local animal group and the tourism partner. Two examples include: * The Potcake Place in the Turks and Caicos Islands, which lists on its Web site local resorts that support this dog rescue group: www.potcakeplace.com (click on Our Sponsors). * The Grenada SPCA Web site, which features a link to JustGrenada.co.uk, a travel company that has donated funds for a new animal shelter: www.grenadaspca.org (click on Carriacou Animal Shelter). |
